From the pension file we learn that Archibald had never been in need of the money therefore didn't file for it. By the time he did file he (or wife) was a bit cloudy on the memory and he may have even mixed up his service with stories he heard of his father's service.2,1 |

William Jackson1

MARRIAGE | | William Jackson married Mary (?) |
Biography* | | Hi Margot, Okay, here goes: William Jackson was a descendant of English-Scottish immigrants, who came to this country some time before the revolutionary war and settled in Georgia. He fought in the Revolutionary War, as a patriot soldier, and settled in Greene Co. Georgia afterward and died in 1833 or 1834. My records indicate that Elizabeth Jackson Odum, was William Jackson's daughter. Elizabeth was one of four children: Nathan, (don't have his birth date) who settled in Florida where he raised a large family; Absalom, born in 1802, who I think is my husband's great-great-great-grandfather; Susie, who died unmarried; and Elizabeth, who I believe was born in 1794, married Archibald Odum in 1826, a revolutionary soldier. Archibald was born in 1758, so it looks like he was already 68 years old when he married Elizabeth. I have no information on any children of that marriage, if there were any. According to Georgia census records, in 1860, she was already a widow living with her nephew Greene (Absalom's son) in Baker County, Georgia. In the 1870 census, she was still with Greene in Mitchell County, Georgia, where she died at the age of 84 (I guess around 1878). That's about all I have right now, Margot. If I collect more information on Elizabeth Jackson Odum, I will pass it on. Thanks for responding to my earlier email. Sincerely, Donna Jackson. |
