Birth*1682 Anne Marie Madeleine Bonnet was born in 1682.1
MARRIAGE*circa 1708 She married Jean Baptiste Gallopin, son of Charles Gallopin and Claudette Royon, circa 1708 at Paris, France, Best I can tell, Margot ….

My rough translation of that item on the first marriage:

The first is the main body of a contract passed before LeCour et .... , Paris notaries, the 22nd of August of 1704 made between the aforesaid deceased M. Burgevin and the aforesaid now his widow on the one part, and M. Jean Baptiste Galopin, prosecutor in the Chamber of Accounts, on the other part, containing a transaction between them on the rights .... the aforementioned M. and Dame Burgevin against said M. Galopin as with wife Marguerite Burgevin, daughter, who is deceased; both with Claude Theodore Gallopin, said daughter of M. and Dame Gallopin and granddaughter of said M. and Dame Burgevin .... a contract of marriage of said M. and Dame Gallopin passed before notaries Masle and Boucher the 20th of June 1699 ….

Here we see that Jean Baptiste Galopin married Marguerite Burgevin on the June 20, 1699, had a daughter, Claude Theodore Gallopin, and that Marguerite died before August 22, 1704.

Jean Baptiste Galopin married a second time to Anne Marie Madeleine Bonnetsometime between 1704 and 1709. Their first child of record, Anne Madeleine, was born 20 Dec 1709.

MARRIAGE*30 October 1810  On 30 October 1810 Hi, Margo!
In regards to the location of the intersection of Braddock Rd and Ruffner Rd, I checked a Northern Virginia map. This intersection is in Alexandria. As to its location by a known landmark, I would say it is about 10 blocks north of George Washington Masonic Memorial. It also appears to be just about straight East of the Virginia Theological Seminary on Seminary Road.
And on the matter of genealogy, I recently found the following in the Fr. Helbron's Greesburg register:

"Brotice-Ruffner: October 30, 1810, John Brotice to Anna Ruffner. John Brotice returning to Clearfield with his spouse."

Now a little bit of interpretation. A written "e" and a written "k" look similar. On an old faded document, it might be impossible to see the vertical bar that makes a "k" a "k" and not an "e." I think that Fr. Helbron actually wrote BROTICK, which is a pretty good phonetic spelling of BRADDOCK. My ancestor, John Braddock, lived on Clearfield creek.

Now my uncertainty comes in because the name "Anna" is used both here and in the church records at St. Michaels at Loretto. I wish I could be sure that "Nancy" was a nickname for Anna. I feel increasingly confident that there is a marriage relationship between the RUFFNER and BRADDOCK families. I wish I could find further evidence that Nancy is Anna and this person is the daughter of Simon and Catherine Ruffner. If you ever discover such evidence, please pass it along to me.

Sincerely,

Joe David Berg

Notes for MICHAEL BRADDOCK:
The data of birth is pure speculation based on what would be a normal pattern of 2 year separation between children. It is possible that his birth might have been earlier, between that of John Clement and Pius.
There would then be the possibility that this Michael and the Michael Braddock who married Grace Keenan are the same persons.
However, until further research is completed, it is presumed that they are separate individuals.
Baptismal records at St Joseph's Church, near Somerset, which contain records for John Clement and Pius James, DO NOT contain any other children of John Braddock. This might be interperted as meaning that a Michael, son of John and Nancy Ruffner, may never have existed. The only indications that we have of his existance is being named in a letter by Sister Praxedes and a reference by Francis Patrick Braddock to three unnamed chldren from a first marriage.

St. Joseph's situated a little more than two miles south of Somerset on the road leading to New Lexington. This famous church, the first Catholic church in Ohio, owes its existence to the apostolic labors of Father Fenwick, O. P., afterwards the first Bishop of Cincinnati, who dedicated the first church erected at St.Joseph's---a structure of logs---on December 6, 1818. A second and larger church, of brick and stone, succeeded this one. This in turn gave way to a new and larger church, which, together with the convent attached to it, was destroyed by fire on January 14, 1864.

Died while en route to Florida,
Bluff ton being not far from her home in Huntington Co, In.

Her brother John went to Bluff ton and had her remains brought to Newark where she is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The following is transcribed from handwritten notes during interview with Nellie and Minnie Braddock

Nellie and Minne went out to visit their Aunt Agnes about 1895. Their advance letter had failed to arrive so on arrival at Huntington at night they had gone to a hotel and next morning had a cab ( a hansom) take them out to Jake Zahm's & arrived at breakfast time. In 1890 Nellie was visiting there at the time of her grandmothers death was called home for grandmothers funeral.

Nellie says Agnes Step-children didn't like Agnes. Once Julia asked Nellie to ask Agnes if they could bake some cakes.

Jake visited his sister, Mary Bled sacker, at Lancaster prior to marrying Agnes and said his own children did not favor his marrying again. He and Agnes stopped there ( at Mary's) on their honeymoon.

Agnes and step-children did not get along. Shortly after the marriage they were all marrying or going away.

Albert was praised highly but Agnes said "he's too good to come out and see us"

Agnes said Albert would kiss anything, even a chicken drumstick.

Clara Bet sacker & her mother, Mary, attended 30th wedding anniversary of Peter Zahm and Mary Hair about 1899 and said that she and Albert went for walk & sat on rail fence & he said "May I kiss you?" He was then about 38, she about 22. She said "No. Why didn't you do it when we met?" He replied "What? In front of all those people?"

At one time he started kissing a maid when she was separating milk and the maid dumped the milk on his head. He once visited Clara 25 yrs ago and would correct her statements.

Anecdote*2004  In 2004 No, I do not know the Ruffner story, but anything would help. There
are several Braddock cousins that are digging for whatever they
can find on the Ruffners to see if we can tie the two together...One
has even noticed that there is a Braddock road that intersects with
a Ruffner road in Alexandria VA/outskirts of DC...!

John Braddock (b. 1787 in Hagerstown MD) and his 1st wife
(possibly Nancy) had 3 sons together: Pius John (presumably
having some tie with Pius X), John Clement and Michael J. All
born prior to John's second marriage to Elizabeth Storm in 1826. It was John Clement (possibly Nancy's son) that named his son Edwin Ruffner Braddock.

John's father Nicholas Braddock was in Cambria County PA, primarily, but there must have been something up with Perry
County OH as John was back and forth from PA and OH quite a bit - do you know of any Ruffners in Perry County OH?

I do know that the Ruffners were in PA early, I have heard that they have ties to St. Vincent's/ Sportman's Hall, Goshenhoppen, Westmoreland county, St. Michael's in Loretto... and when I checked an old e-mail from one of my cousins, he referred all of our researchers to your website, has he not tried to reach you? His name is Joe David Berg...?

Anyway, if you have anything you can share that might help in our research, I will be most grateful! And I will keep you posted no matter what I find...
Thank you for staying in touch!
Cheryl.
Anecdote2004  In 2004 Dear Margot,
I did not know they gave the Catholic church this land...Joe referred to a book "Catholic Trails West" (by Adams & OKeefe) when he talked about the Ruffners and Sportsman's Hall, he referred to the Ruffners as "Catholic pioneers", but did not say in what way... He believes that John married your Anna's sister, Nancy, they were one county apart and a Catholic church apart and for some reason, he thinks John followed Nancy's father (Simon?) to Ohio. He also ran across an Indian massacre on Ruffners, but not sure which Ruffners and where he got the info. from....
