MARRIAGE* Lewis Roach married Cerindar Rudd, daughter of John H Rudd and Harriet Anderson.
Birth*circa 1811 P circa 1811 The only info we had was from Ida W.'s letter to Pappy in 1907 that said she had married a "Mr. Roach and lived in Covington for a while then moved west."
I discovered Mr. Roach was Louis/Lewis Roach, born about 1811 in Kentucky. In 1880 they are living in Mattoon Township, Coles Co., Illinois. Well, I guess that IS west.
In the 1880 census her names is scribed as Cirinda. (I've spelled it every way I could think of except that!)

Birth* Mary Rogers was born.
MARRIAGE She married (?) Rogers.1
MARRIAGE*before 1781 She married Abraham Bass, son of John Bass Jr. and Elizabeth Winborn, before 1781 at Edgecomb, NC, Here is a note from Lance Bretsnyder. It raises a question in my mind. First, I didn't know that Edgecomb County had "vital" records at this early date and second, if Mary's grandaughter was named Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of Rober Rogers, it would be unusual for the grandmother to have the same surname. Need to investigate this more.
"Edgecomb County Vital Records" gives her as widow of man named Rogers.

Thanks for the information. I do believe that Abraham Bass married Ann Woods's mother Mary at some point after the early 1750s.
Going back up the common tree a few generations, we have Catherine Laniere as one of our ancestors. I have seen references to a Mark Laniere who was in Catherine's neighborhood, I believe Norfolk, and think that he may have been her father since I can't find any other Laniers in Virginia at so early a time. There was a Lanier website that traced the Laniers to English Court musicians who came from France and had roots as musicians in Italy. I think the Italian part of the family was named Bassano. Until later, Lance

WILLIAM BASSE
MARRIAGE*26 May 1764 Robert Rogers married Ann Bass, daughter of Abraham Bass and Mary Rogers, on 26 May 1764 at Edgecomb, NC, This was the part of Edgecomb that became Nash County. Marriage record shows Robert Rogers married to Anne Woods. If this is correct she was born Bass and married a Woods OR her mother was married to Woods and then to Abraham Bass.
Probate*3 June 1791 His estate was probated after on 3 June 1791; Will Book 1 p. 227 Nash County, N.C. Probated in August court 1791. He must have been rather young as all children are mentioned in will including four unmarried daughters. A witness was William Richardson.

> Robert Rogers's wife was Ann Woods, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Woods. They were married in Edgecomebe Co., NC, in 1764 but lived on the land that Ann apparently inherited from her father in Northampton Co., NC, before they moved to Nash Co., NC. Thomas Woods had died c. 1751 and left a will naming his wife Mary, daughter Ann, and son Jesse. The Woods's land was located on the Ahotskey Swamp, if I recall the name correctly, which was near the Uraha Swamp where the Bass family held land. Robert and Ann's son Jesse married Denise Bass, the daughter of Isaac and Nancy [(Mary) Bunch] Bass. My suspicion is that Isaac's brother married Thomas's widow for I know her name was Mary and a number of Robert and Ann's children were beneficiaries of his estate.
